Seasonal Reasoning

Job 9:7-10 “If He commands it, the sun won’t rise and the stars won’t shine. He alone has spread out the heavens and marches on the waves of the sea. He made all the stars – the bear and Orion, the Pleiades and constellations of the southern sky. He does great things too marvelous to understand. He performs countless miracles.”

I’ve so often wondered how I fit in this world. How I feel like Job more often than not. I love a pity party. Don’t we all? Who am I to be more deserving of a life of less pain and less misery and less strife and less sorrow than that of the life Christ led? Or that one of His most faithful followers led for that matter. How many times has God tried to guide us in an area that we may think we have totally given over to Him? How many times has God allowed us to bask in His glory once we finally surrendered the very thing we had thought we had given over long ago? How many times have we cried out to God and felt He left us with an unanswered prayer? How many times have we felt His presence as we see the glory that unfolded from a prayer we didn’t even think to ask? (John 8:47) How many times must He knock us to our knees when the only way we have to look is up for us to get it? Don’t we enjoy the stars in the sky? Can we not even begin to envision Gods greater plan while we gaze upon them? Is our telescope focused in on the guiding light or the ones that shine and then suddenly become dim? Are we so blind that we don’t see His brilliance?

Tonight I gazed into a dark sky and for the first time in my 30 plus years I noticed the stars twinkling. Every single one of them. ( I mean I obviously knew they twinkled but nothing like I witnessed tonight.) In the innocence of my child I was reminded of the brilliance of the stars through song. Twinkle, twinkle little star how I wonder…… How many times have I sang this song? How many times have I missed the beauty of the night and the wondrous love of Christ? Is it the undeniable fact in this single revelation of my life that like in John 9:25, “though I once was blind, now I see.” Have I been blind to my surroundings, all the blessings in my life, so much so that I even missed the stars twinkling in the sky? Have I let the struggles and the duties of the day distract me away from where I needed my eyes to focus? Is this the clear picture I’ve longed for? Has God chosen in this moment to reveal to me the picture of His grace? In His infinite wisdom He has created such a splendor of His love just for me!

Psalm 8:3-5 “When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers- the moon and the stars you set in place- what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them? Yet you made them only a little bit lower than God and crowded the with glory and honor.”

Do you have a Revelation in the moment of understanding God’s vast love for you? Grace? Mercy? We are undeserving, yet so willing to accept these freely given gifts. These intangible gifts that we are unable to imagine not having in our life. Our little pocket protectors; those freebies we’ve hoarded in our pockets for safe keeping, to cling to later when the going gets tough. If God knows every star by name and has placed them in the sky (Isaiah 40:26-29) why mustn’t we understand the importance of ourselves in this dark world and what it means to be a light for Him. What if the light we give off, His light as we are His vessels, could lead a lost soul to His redeeming love. Did not a star lead the Wiseman to Jesus? Then why couldn’t it do the same thing now. How can you look into the sky and question His existence? How can you not be drawn to His redemption? Our opportunities to know Christ and experience all of His goodness are endless in this life. Like the twinkling stars blink quickly in the night sky, don’t blink so often that you miss all the unforeseen miracles along the way. Know God’s plan for you and enjoy every single moment leading you to the indescribable brilliance beyond the stars.

Allow Him to reveal Himself more fully to you through His word.

Psalm 143:10 “Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.”
