Jacksonville State Set to Host Western Kentucky in Regular Season Finale

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - With bowl eligibility secured and momentum on their side, the Jacksonville State Gamecocks are preparing for a high-stakes showdown against Western Kentucky on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Burgess–Snow Field at JSU Stadium. The matchup marks the final regular-season game for both teams and could have significant implications for postseason positioning in Conference USA.

A Clash of Contenders

Jacksonville State enters the contest with a 7–4 overall record, having demonstrated resilience and growth in their second season at the FBS level. Their most recent victory, a 35–26 win over Kennesaw State, showcased the Gamecocks' balanced offensive attack and opportunistic defense. Quarterback Caden Creel and running back Cam Cook have emerged as key playmakers, combining for over 250 rushing yards and three touchdowns in that game alone.

Western Kentucky, meanwhile, comes into the game at 8–3, riding a three-game winning streak and looking to solidify its standing atop the conference. Known for their high-powered passing offense, the Hilltoppers will test a Jacksonville State defense that has been stout against the run but occasionally vulnerable through the air.

Coaching Chess Match

Head coach Charles Kelly is in his first year at Jacksonville after Coach Rich Rodriguez left to return to West Virginia. Rodriguez guided Jacksonville State through a successful transition to the FBS, Western Kentucky's head coach Tyson Helton brings a style, favoring tempo and vertical passing. The Hilltoppers average over 300 passing yards per game, led by quarterback Turner Helton, who has thrown for 28 touchdowns this season.

Key Matchups to Watch

• Caden Creel vs. WKU Secondary: Creel's dual-threat ability will be critical in keeping the Hilltoppers' defense off balance. His decision-making and ability to extend plays could be the X-factor.

• JSU Secondary vs. Turner Helton: Jacksonville State's defensive backs will be tested by one of the most prolific passers in the conference. Limiting big plays will be essential.

• Time of Possession: The Gamecocks thrive when they control the clock. Sustaining long drives and keeping WKU's offense off the field will be a top priority.

Senior Day and Fan Energy

Saturday's game also marks Senior Day for Jacksonville State, with several key contributors playing their final home game. The atmosphere at The Vet is expected to be electric, as fans celebrate a season that has exceeded expectations and look ahead to the program's first potential bowl appearance.

This marks their second year as a full Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) member after transitioning from the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). Under the leadership of head coach Charles Kelly, the Gamecocks have quickly become a competitive force in the conference, entering the final week of the regular season tied at the top of the standings with Western Kentucky and Kennesaw State.

Jacksonville State last beat FIU on November 22 by a score of 21 to 17.

A win over Western Kentucky would bolster their résumé for a bowl invitation. It would also serve as a statement victory.
