Jaguars Roar on Senior Day: South Alabama Outlasts Southern Miss 42–35 in Home Finale

MOBILE, Ala. - In a thrilling Sun Belt showdown at Hancock Whitney Stadium, the South Alabama Jaguars sent their seniors out in style with a hard-fought 42–35 victory over Southern Miss on Saturday, November 22, 2025. The win snapped a three-game skid and lifted the Jaguars to a 4–7 record overall, 3–4 in conference play, with one final game remaining in the regular season.

The contest was a back-and-forth affair filled with explosive plays, emotional moments, and a standout performance from running back Kentrel Bullock, who torched the Golden Eagles for 187 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Bullock's Big Day

From the opening whistle, it was clear that South Alabama intended to establish the run, and Bullock delivered. The senior tailback, playing in his final home game, broke loose for a 58-yard touchdown on the Jaguars' second possession, setting the tone for a dominant ground attack that racked up over 250 rushing yards on the day.

"It meant everything to go out like this, especially in front of our fans and families," Bullock said postgame. "We've been through a lot this season, but we never stopped fighting."

Davenport's Steady Hand

Quarterback Bishop Davenport, making his third consecutive start, continued to show poise and growth under center. He completed 14 of 22 passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns, including a perfectly placed 24-yard strike to wide receiver Caullin Lacy late in the third quarter that gave South Alabama a 35–28 lead.

Davenport also added 45 rushing yards, keeping the Southern Miss defense off balance with timely scrambles and zone-read keepers.

Momentum Swings and Defensive Stands

Southern Miss refused to go quietly. Quarterback Zach Wilcke threw for 312 yards and three touchdowns, including a 75-yard bomb to wideout Latreal Jones that tied the game at 28 midway through the third quarter.

But South Alabama's defense stepped up when it mattered most. Linebacker Quinton Wilfawn recorded a key sack on a fourth-quarter drive, and safety Yam Banks sealed the win with a late interception in the red zone, halting a potential game-tying drive.

South Alabama will conclude its regular season at Texas State at 2:00 p.m. CST on ESPN+.
