November 28, 2025 - CORVALLIS, Oregon - Oregon State University has officially named Alabama co-offensive coordinator JaMarcus Shephard as the next head coach of the Beavers football program, the school announced Friday. The agreement is a five-year deal, according to ESPN sources.
Shephard, who also served as Alabama's assistant head coach and wide receivers coach, brings a wealth of experience and a reputation for developing elite talent. In a statement, Shephard expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity:
"I'm honored to lead the Oregon State University football program and to join a community that cares so deeply about its student-athletes. We will build a culture rooted in toughness, integrity, and relentless effort, and I'm excited to get to work with our players, staff, and supporters to write the next great chapter of Beaver football."
A Return to the Pacific Northwest
Shephard is no stranger to the region or the Pac-12. He previously coached at Washington State in 2016 and more recently served on Kalen DeBoer's staff at Washington from 2022 to 2023. During his time with the Huskies, Shephard helped guide the team to a national championship appearance, while mentoring one of the most dynamic receiving trios in college football: Rome Odunze, Ja'Lynn Polk, and Jalen McMillan.
A Proven Developer of Talent
Shephard's coaching résumé includes standout stints at Purdue, where he mentored All-American Rondale Moore and All-Big Ten receiver David Bell. At Alabama, he oversaw the development of one of the nation's top receiving duos in Germie Bernard and Ryan Williams. His earlier work at Washington State included coaching future NFL wideout River Cracraft.
Known as a passionate leader and elite communicator, Shephard has built a reputation for connecting with players and maximizing their potential. His ability to identify and develop talent has made him one of the most respected position coaches in the country.
A Program in Transition
Shephard takes over for Trent Bray, who was dismissed in October after compiling a 5-14 record over two seasons. The Beavers are currently 2-9, and the program faces significant challenges amid the collapse of the traditional Pac-12 Conference and the resulting financial uncertainty.
Despite the headwinds, Oregon State is betting on Shephard's energy, experience, and recruiting prowess to guide the program into a new era.
