Republican primary field continues to fill out

UPDATED: 5:35 p.m. January 23 - With just 8 hours left in candidate qualifying more candidates are stepping up to make their claim to represent the Alabama Republican Party in federal and state elections. The Senate field of candidates has grown to seven, there is competition in four of the five Republican held congressional seats, and Tommy Tuberville faces two qualified Republican primary opponents.

The U.S. Senate race is wide open with no clear frontrunner and only one candidate who has ever run statewide before so several political newcomers have entered the race. The qualified U.S. Senate candidates are: Seth Burton, Dale Shelton Deas Jr., Jared Hudson, Steve Marshall, Barry Moore, Morgan Murphy, and Rodney Walker

Qualifying ends at 5:00 p.m. on January 23, 2026. Candidates without a qualified primary opponent automatically advance to the general election as their party's nominee. Where there are two or more qualified candidates the nominee will be determined by the party primary voters in the May 19 party primary election.
