Katie Britt condemns Hamas on one year anniversary of the cross border attacks that precipitated the year long war: calls for every hostage to be returned home

October 7, 2024 - WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Alabama) condemned Hamas' year-long war against Israel and the continuous captivity of hostages, including several Americans. She emphasized her unwavering commitment to standing with Israel and bringing every hostage home.

Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) introduced a resolution along with Sens. Katie Britt (R-Alabama), Tommy Tuberville (R-Alabama). and all the Senate Republicans supporting the forever survival of Israel and calling for the safe release of remaining hostages. The Senate Republican Conference stands united in opposing violent antisemitic protests and Iran-backed Hamas' use of rape as a weapon of war. The Republican Senators also reiterated Israel's right to defend herself and emphasized the importance of denying Hamas the ability to reconstitute in the region to ensure the horrific events of that day are never repeated.

"One year after Hamas' barbaric attack on Israel, we stand resolute in our unwavering support for the Jewish state and her right to defend herself. Today, we remember and honor the memory of the victims of that horrific day and renew our vow of 'Never Again.' America must stand shoulder to shoulder with Israel – our great ally, friend, and partner – as she works to bring every single hostage home and permanently neutralize the threat of Hamas," said Senator Britt. "Only through strength can we achieve peace - evil is powerless when the good are unafraid."

On October 7, 2023, Iranian-backed Hamas terrorists launched a vicious unprovoked attack on the people of Israel killing civilians and taking prisonsers. Following the October 7 attack, Senator Britt traveled to Israel with a bipartisan group of her Senate colleagues to meet with leaders across the region and emphasize the United States' unequivocal support for Israel.

Senator Britt has cosponsored legislation to combat the rise in antisemitism in the U.S.. She has also called for bone-crushing sanctions on Iran to inhibit its ability to finance terrorist proxies like Hamas and Hezbollah. She has also joined her colleagues in introducing multiple resolutions condemning Hamas for using sexual and gender-based violence as a weapon of war against Israelis during the October 7 terrorist attack, as well as sending a bipartisan letter to United Nations (U.N.) Secretary-General António Guterres condemning the inaction of the U.N. regarding Hamas' widespread sexual violence.
