House Votes to Pass "One Big Beautiful Bill"

May 22, 2025 - WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. House of Representatives passed President Donald J. Trump's (R) "Big Beautiful Bill" to keep the federal government funded and provide tax relief to 80 percent of Americans, while adopting many of the President's budget priorities.

Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-AL04) voted in favor of the bill. Aderholt said that the landmark legislation delivers critical wins for American families, strengthens national security, and ensures responsible government spending.

"I'm voted yes because hardworking families deserve tax relief, a secure border, and a government that lives within its means," said Congressman Aderholt. "This bill delivers real results while continuing to support the most vulnerable Americans."

House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mike Rogers (R-AL03) released a statement today applauding the House passage of H.R. 1 - the One Big, Beautiful Bill; budget reconciliation legislation to deliver on President Trump's commitment to secure our nation and our borders, spur economic growth, and improve accountability to taxpayers.

The bill includes $150 billion in mandatory funding for bipartisan legislation passed by the House Armed Services Committee to strengthen our national defense and implement President Trump's visionary Peace through Strength agenda.

"After years of chronic underinvestment, our defense industrial base and military capacity have dangerously atrophied to the point where we may no longer be able to sustain a prolonged conflict," Chairman Rogers said. "Without this generational investment in national defense, we will no longer be able to deter our adversaries or ensure America's global leadership. The One Big, Beautiful Bill provides long overdue resources to modernize our military, revitalize the defense industrial base, and improve the quality of life for our servicemembers. The House and Senate Armed Services Committees worked closely together and with the White House to develop this critical legislation, and Speaker Johnson has worked closely with all of the committees involved to develop a comprehensive budget bill that best serves our taxpayers. I'm looking forward to sending this to the President's desk as soon as possible."

The House and Senate Armed Services Committees released legislative text on April 27, 2025, and on April 29, 2025, the House Armed Services Committee marked up the legislation and advanced it to the Budget Committee with a bipartisan vote.

Rep. Barry Moore (R-AL01) released the following statement after voting in favor of the Reconciliation bill. Moore said that this bill is a once in a generation opportunity to renew the Trump tax cuts and deliver on the promises made to the American people.

"Today, House Republicans put America First and politics second and delivered real results," said Moore. "The passage of President Trump's One Big, Beautiful Bill delivers a victory for hardworking families by extending the Trump tax cuts, fully funding border security, lowering energy costs, and investing in new defense technologies. I'm proud to have fought for this bill and to help President Trump deliver on the mandate set by the American people last November."

According to Rogers, the legislation prioritizes critical improvements to America's national defense, including:

Funding key initiatives for President Trump's Golden Dome

Revitalizing our defense industrial base

Strengthening DoD efforts to secure our southwest border and stem the flow of illegal immigration

Deterring Chinese Communist Party aggression

Delivering the systems needed for DoD to improve fiscal efficiency and pass a clean audit

Enhancing servicemember quality of life

The legislation includes a wide array of reforms and investments aimed at promoting economic stability and restoring public trust in federal governance. It also includes a provision championed by Congressman Aderholt: a new $5,000 adoption tax credit to ease the financial burden for families opening their hearts and homes to children in need.

"I'm especially proud to have helped secure an adoption tax credit in this bill," Aderholt said. "This provision will provide meaningful relief to adoptive families and reflects our commitment to protecting life and supporting loving homes."

According to Moore, the reconciliation bill delivers:

A reversal of the spending insanity by securing $1.6 trillion in mandatory savings.

The largest tax cut in American history.

An extra $5,000 in the pockets of the American people.

Protection for Medicaid by removing 1.4 million illegals, eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse within the system.

Lower energy costs for American families while reversing the dangerous Biden-era anti-energy policies.

Permanent border security through funding President Trump's border wall and empowering border officials with the resources they need.

An end to taxpayer-funded sex changes for minors by prohibiting Medicaid funding for transition procedures.

A once-in-a-generation opportunity to revolutionize our nation's defense capabilities through historic investment in new technology.

The bill now heads to the Republican controlled Senate for their consideration.
