May 5, 2025 - WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins announced that Monica Carroll has been appointed by President Donald J. Trump (R) as the Executive Director of Alabama Farm Services Agency.
Monica Carroll and her family operate a diversified farm raising poultry and cattle, along with growing row crops. She previously served as Chairperson of the FSA State Committee during President Trump's first term. She is a board Member for the Alabama Resource Conservation and Development Council and serves on the Alabama Farmers Federation State Women's Leadership Committee.
"When America's farming communities prosper, the entire nation thrives," said Secretary Rollins. "This new group of USDA appointees will ensure President Trump's America First agenda is a reality in rural areas across the country. I am grateful for the leadership of these new state directors and look forward to their work reorienting the agency to put Farmers First again."
“When we have farmers who come in and look for our programs, I can relate to them,” Carroll said. “I have lived that life, so I know how important it will be that we get programs out there to farmers as fast as possible.”
FSA handles programs related to conservation, natural disasters and risk management.
Carroll told the Alabama Farmer's Federation that she looks forward to supporting a key facet of FSA’s work and staff.
“I’m excited about our employees at FSA,” she said. “They get it. We have a lot of good employees who care about what we do every day. I’m excited about getting to know them and letting them know, as a farmer, how much we appreciate them and what they do for farmers every day.”
FSA State Directors help implement President Trump's America First agenda and execute the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) policies in planning, organizing, and administering FSA programs through state offices across the country. RD State Directors help affirm the mission of the Trump Administration by focusing on finding ways to empower rural America and unleash economic prosperity.
Alabama Farmers Federation President Jimmy Parnell said it is critical to have a farmer at the helm of FSA during these trying times.
“Monica understands Alabama agriculture,” Parnell said. “That’s important. We’re excited to have a leader in place who understands the tough times our farmers are facing. We believe her leadership will have a profound impact on how this agency helps Alabama farmers and landowners improve their land, livelihood and legacy.”
President Trump still has to appoint his Alabama Rural Development Director. During his last term, Chris Beeker III served in that role; but Governor Kay Ivey (R) appointed Beeker to replace his father on the Alabama Public Service Commission.
