Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry Announces Run for Alabama Public Service Commission

CULLMAN, AL – Cullman County Sheriff Matt Gentry (R) has announced that he's stepping up to run for the Alabama Public Service Commission, answering what he calls a God-given calling to serve the good people of Alabama in a new way.

Born and raised in Cullman County, Sheriff Gentry has spent his life standing up for his community and doing what's right. From enlisting in the United States Marine Corps out of high school, and soon after, starting his career as a deputy sheriff in Cullman County, public service has been an important part of Matt Gentry's everyday life.

For the past decade, he's led the Cullman County Sheriff's Office with a steady hand, a servant's heart, and a deep love for the people he serves.

"I've prayed on this, talked it over with my family, and I truly believe now's the time," Gentry said. "The Lord put it on my heart to serve Alabama in a new way. This isn't about politics-it's about doing right by the people."

The Alabama Public Service Commission oversees utilities like electricity and gas, making sure families and small businesses aren't taken advantage of and have access to dependable service at fair prices. Gentry says the Commission needs leaders who understand what every day Alabamians go through-and who won't back down when it comes to standing up for them.

Gentry also stated that when elected, transparency would be at the forefront, as he has held thousands of community meetings, public events, and citizen classes as Sheriff of Cullman County.

"Access to elected officials shouldn't be hard. I will always have an open-door policy to anyone who wants to meet with me, and I won't disappear if elected. I will continue to travel the state to hear citizens' concerns", said Gentry.

"My whole life has been about protecting and serving the people who have given me the honor to serve them," he said. "From small farms to front porches, people deserve someone who'll fight for them, and I know what it's like from my 25 years in law enforcement to go to work every day to fight for those individuals who need help. That's what I aim to do when elected to the PSC."

Matt Gentry's campaign is expected to draw strong support from rural communities across the state who want to see more common-sense, conservative leadership in Montgomery. In the first two weeks of fundraising, Matt Gentry raised $97,800 and also loaned the campaign $100,000 for a total of $197,800.

A formal campaign kickoff event will be announced soon.

Matt Gentry is married to Susie, and they have two sons, William and Walker. They also have 3 dogs and a herd of Longhorns.
