The people's voice of reason

"Throw it on God"

Let's get rid of some unnecessary weight today. I'm sure you're familiar with the scripture in

I Peter 5 that says, “Humble yourself under the mighty hand of God so that you can exalt you in due time. Casting all your cares on Him because He cares for you.”

The way I look at it is that it is an aggressive form of humility because cast means to throw it…not to just hand it over or flirt with it before you give it to God. It says to throw that stuff off of you. But just don't throw it anywhere. Throw it to God.

The humility is knowing that I can't handle it, but God can. But it says to cast your cares. Cares refers to worries, difficulties, anxieties. Worries are thoughts that produce nothing but bad. So, throw it on God. How many times have you said “I'm worried” and it got better? Throw it on God. Difficulties are things that I can't handle on my own. So, throw it on God.

When I was a child, my Granddaddy and I loved to fish. We would go and cast our line out. The goal was to pull something back in when we reel it in. Something that was better than what was on the hook when we threw it out.

You see, when we truly cast our cares on God, we don't reel back in the same thing. He gives us peace for the weary and replaces our anxiety with joy. One thing we know about fishing is we'll never catch one thing without casting it in. If our pride keeps us from casting our cares on God, we will get nothing for our pride because God extends grace to the humble.

“God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.” James 4:6

My friend, the stuff you're hanging on to today is worth not it. So, throw it all on God because He cares for you.

Many Blessings!
