August 15, 2025 – DEKALB COUNTY, AL. – Congressman Barry Moore (R-AL01) formally launched his campaign for U.S. Senate at an overflow gathering on Sand Mountain in Sylvania. Moore is running for the U.S. seat currently held by Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Alabama). Tuberville is vacating the seat to run for Governor.
"I don't care whether I am in Coffee County or Sand Mountain it is always better in Alabama than in Washington," said Tuberville.
Moore is a graduate of Auburn University. Moore is a veteran. He and his wife, Heather, started a small waste collection business in Moore's Native Coffee County.
Moore served two terms in the Alabama House of Representatives representing his native Coffee County from 2010 to 2018, Moore has been endorsed by his good friend – former State Representative Ed Henry (R-Hartselle) who along with Barry was part of that Republican wave election in 2010 that broke 135 years of uninterrupted Democratic Party rule in the Alabama Legislature.
"We went in as the first Republican majority since Reconstruction," recounted Moore.
We were bringing "Conservative ideals" to Montgomery and we "were in a fight."
"The system – even good people will get in the system, and it will get their hooks into them," Moore recounted.
The engineer of that Republican 2010 win – Alabama Republican Party Chairman Mike Hubbard (R-Auburn) – became the first Republican Speaker of the Alabama House since the 1870s; but ultimately both he and House Majority Leader Micky Hammons were convicted on ethics and/or public corruption charges.
Moore and Henry together were two of the first members of the Alabama House to endorse Donald J. Trump – then a New York City business tycoon who had never run for public office before.
"This guy named Donald Trump was coming to Alabama," said Moore.
Trump was addressing 50,000+ people at Ladd Peoples Stadium in Mobile, AL.
"Will any of you guys be willing to endorse Donald Trump this day?" Moore recalled being asked by the Trump team. "Heather and I went down the hall to the RV and said a prayer."
Ultimately Moore made the decision to endorse Mr. Trump – joined by Henry.
"It was a 17 way primary and there was a 1% chance that this guy would win the primary and no chance that he would beat Hillary Clinton (in the general election)," said Moore. "I became the first elected official in the nation to endorse Donald Trump. Conventional wisdom is that he can't win; but I had a feeling. I had friends of mine who said what are you doing?"
Eventually Trump carried Alabama in the 2016 GOP primary, won the Republican nomination, and was elected President in 2016.
"If Donald Trump had not won the election in 2016 we would not have known how broke our government is," said Moore. "The system has not worked for the American people for many years."
Shortly after Trump's victory information was released claiming that Trump was an agent of Russian intelligence. That was eventually proven to be a fabrication by the President's enemies in D.C.
"When he was elected he had no idea how hard they would come after him," Moore said of Trump. "They have impeached him twice. there have been two assassination attempts."
Moore said that if a man like Donald Trump is willing to put his life on the line for this country then we need to send a fighter to the Senate.
"We need to send people to the U.S. Senate that will continue to fight," said Moore. "He is the tip of the spear."
'He spent $76 million on legal fees. He has been indicted 96 times," said Moore. "He said that he felt God spared his life on that day in Butler, Pennsylvania."
"They are not after him they are after you," Moore claimed.
Moore said that he was voted the most conservative member of the Alabama House when he was there and that he is the most conservative member of the Alabama Congressional delegation and is "13th most conservative in all of Congress."
"I was also one of the most effective members of Congress," said Moore. "I had Joe Biden sign one of my pieces of legislation. I did not attend the bill signing."
"I am in the House Freedom Caucus," said Moore. "I am not going to turn my back on them."
Moore thanked all the youth that have volunteered for his campaign and who are championing his campaign on social media,
"We are fighting for their future; but they are joining us in the fight," said Moore.
Speaker of the House Nathaniel Ledbetter (R-Rainsville) was at the event – near his hometown of Rainsville; but he did not address the crowd.
"He is doing a good job as Speaker," Moore said of Ledbetter.
Heather Moore – the wife of Rep. Moore – was raised on Sand Mountain in DeKalb County.
"I hit the husband jackpot when I met Barry Moore," said Heather Moore, "I have been married to him for 33 years and I love him today just as much then as when I married him."
"I have never seen a more consistent human being than Barry Moore," said Heather Moore of Barry. "He walks down and votes with courage every time."
The Moores were joined on stage by most of their children.
"This is a family affair," said Heather Moore. "We do this as a family, Sometimes it is not fun to hear bad things about your husband and your daddy."
Former Rep. Henry said that in their eight years in the legislature he only beat Barry Moore once as the most conservative member of the Legislature.
Henry said he and Barry were two of just four elected leaders who would go on stage to address their support for Trump back in 2015 in Mobile.
Moore faces a crowded GOP primary field that includes Attorney General Steve Marshall, East Alabama businessman and rancher Rodney Walker, and former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson. That primary field is expected to grow.
The Republican Primary is on May 19, 2026.
