Today is a day that will be remembered for generations in Alabama history. President Donald J. Trump has officially announced that the permanent headquarters of the United States Space Command will be located in Huntsville, Alabama. This is not just a victory for our state-it is a victory for common sense, fairness, and the future of American strength in space.
I am thrilled to report that the U.S. Space Command headquarters will move to the beautiful locale of a place called Huntsville, Alabama," Trump said. "Forever to be known from this point forward as Rocket City."
This decision should have been made years ago. In President Trump's first term, after a rigorous, merit-based process, Huntsville was chosen as the best home for U.S. Space Command. The facts were overwhelming; our workforce, our infrastructure, and our history as the nation's Rocket City made Alabama the obvious choice. But in 2023, President Biden's administration overruled that decision, citing vague "readiness" concerns. Everyone knew what it really was: politics. Washington insiders tried to deny Alabama what it had rightfully earned. Today, President Trump corrected that mistake. He did what is right for America's security and for Alabama's future.
Huntsville is already the heart of America's space and missile defense enterprise. Redstone Arsenal, NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, and the Army's Space and Missile Defense Command all call Huntsville home. The region has decades of expertise, a highly skilled workforce, and a proud tradition of supporting our nation's defense. By placing Space Command where the talent and infrastructure already exist, President Trump is ensuring that America remains unmatched in space dominance.
This decision will bring thousands of jobs, billions in investment, and untold opportunities for northern Alabama and the entire state. Huntsville will not only be a hub of innovation and national defense but a beacon for young people who want to be part of the next great frontier. It means more families building their lives here, more businesses investing here, and more reasons for our children and grandchildren to stay in Alabama rather than look elsewhere.
Space is no longer just the realm of exploration. It is the new battlefield. Our enemies are investing heavily in space weapons, communications disruption, and surveillance. U.S. Space Command is the shield that protects our troops, our satellites, and our homeland. By placing its headquarters in Huntsville, President Trump is making sure America's defense is built on the strongest possible foundation.
On behalf of the people of Alabama: thank you, Mr. President. Thank you for trusting Alabama. Thank you for standing up to the political games that delayed this move. Thank you for putting America's security first. And a special thanks to our Alabama Republican delegation, who worked tirelessly to make this day a reality-led by Senator Tommy Tuberville and Senator Katie Britt, along with Representatives Barry Moore, Mike Rogers, Robert Aderholt, Dale Strong and Gary Palmer. Their persistence and unity ensured that Alabama's case was never forgotten in Washington.
For too long, Alabama has been overlooked by Washington power brokers who thought we could not handle the responsibility. Today, President Trump proved them wrong. This is a great day for Alabama and a great day for America. The Rocket City is ready to lead, and with President Trump, Senator Tuberville, Senator Britt, and our Alabama delegation standing strong, we know the best is yet to come.
