The Montgomery Military and Veterans Affairs Commission is partnering with the AL Department of Veterans Affairs to honor and remember veterans who lost their lives to suicide. The campaign features a powerful display of American flags at Rotary Park behind Montgomery City Hall on Tuesday, September 2, 2025. The flag laying ceremony will take place at 2:00 p.m., and parking is available in the Municipal parking garage behind City Hall. Veterans and the public are invited to attend this special ceremony.
Operation We Remember is an annual campaign through the Alabama Department of Veterans Affairs that serves as a visual reminder that suicide knows no boundaries. The campaign features an American flag display representing the AL veterans who died by suicide the previous two years before. It takes place statewide during the month of September which serves as National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.
In September 2025, the display will include 139 flags to honor and remember the 139 Alabama veterans who died by suicide in 2023. Operation We Remember features partnerships statewide with colleges and universities, cities and counties through the Alabama League of Municipalities and partnerships created through ADVA Veterans Service Offices. There are 145 partners participating in 2025.
