Montgomery, Ala. - October 10, 2025 - Montgomery police have arrested a juvenile male in connection with the October 4 mass shooting that left two people dead and twelve others injured in the city's downtown nightlife district. The suspect, whose name and age have not been released due to his status as a minor, faces one count of capital murder, nine counts of first-degree assault, and three counts of second-degree assault.

The shooting occurred around 11:30 p.m. near Bibb Street and Commerce Street, following celebrations tied to a local football game and other city events. Authorities say the violence erupted after a targeted individual returned fire, prompting others in the crowd to discharge weapons. Multiple firearms and shell casings were recovered at the scene.

The victims have been identified as 17-year-old Jeremiah Morris, a student at McIntyre Comprehensive Academy, and 43-year-old Shalanda Williams. Of the twelve injured, five sustained life-threatening injuries. Seven of the victims were under the age of 20, with the youngest being just 16.

Montgomery Police Chief James Graboys confirmed that the juvenile suspect was taken into custody on October 10 and booked into the Montgomery County Detention Facility. The department released video footage of the arrest on its Facebook page, showing officers patting down the suspect before placing him in a patrol car.
