Half-Price Admission to Alabama National Fair with Pet Donations

October 6, 2025 - WETUMPKA, Ala. - The Humane Society of Elmore County is calling on River Region residents to support local shelters through donations of pet food and supplies, especially during this week's Alabama National Fair. Executive Director Rea Cord announced that on Friday, October 10, fairgoers can receive half-price admission by bringing donations of dry or canned pet food, pet toys, blankets, or towels.

All donated items will be distributed among three area shelters:

• Humane Society of Elmore County

• Prattville-Autauga Humane Society

• Montgomery Humane Society

Cord thanked the Kiwanis Club of Montgomery and the Alabama National Fair organizers for their continued support of animal welfare efforts in the region.

"This is a tremendous opportunity to help our shelters while enjoying the Fair," Cord said. "We're grateful for the community's generosity and the leadership of the Kiwanis Club in making this possible."

Critical Shortage of Dog Food

Outside of the Fair, the Elmore County shelter is facing a critical shortage of dry dog food, as donations from retail sources have declined. Cord emphasized that any brand is welcome, but Pedigree is a reliable and affordable option that works well for the shelter's dogs.

Donations can be:

• Dropped off at the shelter Monday through Saturday

• Shipped directly via Amazon, Chewy, or Walmart

Cord noted that online retailers do not include donor information, so anyone needing a receipt should contact the shelter directly.
