Senator Tim Melson Launches 2026 Re-Election Bid for Alabama Senate District 1

October 16, 2025 - FLORENCE, AL. - Alabama State Senator Tim Melson (R-Florence) has officially announced his intention to seek re-election in 2026, reaffirming his commitment to conservative leadership and continued service to the residents of Senate District 1, which encompasses Lauderdale and Limestone counties.

Melson, first elected in 2014, has built a reputation as a principled advocate for North Alabama, consistently championing individual freedoms, economic development, and workforce advancement. His tenure has been marked by collaboration with regional institutions such as the University of North Alabama and a focus on delivering tangible results for his constituents.

"I'm proud of what we've accomplished, but there's more work to do-especially with President Trump's recent announcement that Space Command is coming to North Alabama," Melson said. "North Alabama is growing, and I want to continue fighting for the people of Lauderdale and Limestone counties-to protect our conservative values, improve job opportunities, and ensure our families and communities have a voice in Montgomery.

Throughout his legislative career, Melson has prioritized expanding job training programs, promoting fiscal responsibility, and defending Alabama's core values. His leadership has earned him the trust of District 1 voters and positioned him as a steady voice on issues ranging from education and healthcare to public safety and government accountability.

"I'm running for re-election because I love this state, and I believe in the people of North Alabama," Melson added. "It's been an honor to serve, and I look forward to earning the support of voters once again."

A lifelong resident of Florence, Melson graduated from the University of North Alabama and earned his medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He returned to his hometown to practice as an anesthesiologist at Helen Keller Hospital and later founded Shoals Medical Trials. Outside of medicine, Melson operates a crop farm and enjoys raising cattle as a hobby.

Melson and his wife Lynn have been married for 45 years. Together, they have three children and five grandchildren, and are active members of Wood Avenue Church of Christ in Florence.

As the 2026 election cycle approaches, Melson's campaign is expected to emphasize continued progress in regional development and a steadfast commitment to conservative governance.
