Jacksonville State Surges Past Delaware, 38–25, Behind Dual-Threat Creel

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - October 15, 2025 - In a Wednesday night clash that showcased speed, balance, and home-field grit, Jacksonville State powered past Delaware 38–25 at AmFirst Stadium, improving to 4–3 overall and 3–0 in Conference USA play.

Quarterback Caden Creel led the charge with a dynamic performance, throwing for 116 yards and rushing for 117 more, including a 42-yard touchdown scamper that ignited the crowd and gave the Gamecocks a two-score cushion in the third quarter.

"Caden's a spark plug," said head coach Charles Kelly. "He sees the field, makes smart decisions, and gives us that edge when the play breaks down."

Running back Cam Cook matched Creel's ground output with 117 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Anwar Lewis added 62 yards and a score. The Gamecocks racked up over 300 rushing yards, wearing down Delaware's front seven and controlling the tempo.

Defensively, Jacksonville State bent but didn't break. Linebacker Markail Benton recorded nine tackles and a sack, while safety Kolbi Fuqua snagged a key interception in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Delaware kept pace early, trailing just 21–17 at halftime, but the Gamecocks pulled away with a 10-point third quarter and a late touchdown drive that drained the clock.

"We're still growing, but I love the way our guys responded tonight. We've got a lot of new faces, and they're buying in. That's what matters in conference play."

Kelly emphasized the importance of Conference USA momentum, noting that despite early-season struggles, the team is "right on schedule" and showing signs of cohesion. He also praised the defense for stepping up late and highlighted Cam Cook's three-touchdown performance as a tone-setter.

Jacksonville State now turns its attention to a pivotal road matchup against Liberty on October 22, with first place in the conference on the line.
