South Alabama Falls to Arkansas State in One-Point Heartbreaker, 15–14

MOBILE, Ala. - October 14, 2025 - In a game defined by missed opportunities and defensive grit, the South Alabama Jaguars dropped a 15–14 decision to Arkansas State on Saturday night at Hancock Whitney Stadium, falling to 1–6 on the season and 0–3 in Sun Belt play.

Despite outgaining the Red Wolves in total offense and controlling time of possession, the Jaguars couldn't convert key drives into points. Quarterback Bishop Davenport led the offense with 118 passing yards and 72 rushing yards, while running back Kentrel Bullock scored both of South Alabama's touchdowns on the ground.

"We had chances," said head coach Major Applewhite. "The effort was there, but we've got to finish drives and protect the football."

South Alabama's defense kept the game within reach, holding Arkansas State to just one touchdown and two field goals. Linebacker Khalil Jacobs recorded nine tackles and a sack, while cornerback Jaden Voisin broke up two passes and forced a fumble.

The Jaguars took a 14–12 lead midway through the fourth quarter on Bullock's second touchdown run, but Arkansas State responded with a late field goal to reclaim the lead. A final drive by South Alabama stalled near midfield, sealing the loss.

Special teams miscues also loomed large, including a missed field goal and a blocked extra point that ultimately made the difference.

South Alabama will look to regroup as they prepare for a road matchup against Southern Miss on October 21, hoping to salvage momentum in the second half of the season.
