The people's voice of reason

The Sheriff's Office will be hosting our annual Show-N-Tell Summer Camp this month!

This week long camp will be held to promote positive interaction and life rewarding skills with our youth. This camp is not a disciplinary camp but a camp to reward those that strive to achieve their highest potentials during the school year. Those of you that have applied and been accepted to this year's camp....welcome aboard and to those that didn't apply, please apply next year! We accept 100 kids each year to attend camp.

Activities include canoeing, archery, arts and crafts, swimming, outdoor survival skills and of course, a BIG DANCE on the Thursday before they depart from camp. There will be deputies and correction officers on site the entire week to supervise the kids and make sure everyone benefits from the camp!

*Seniors, mark your calendars for Tuesday, September 8th, for our Senior Fishing Rodeo! All senior citizens, 55 years young and up, are invited to fish at the Montgomery County ponds located 7 miles from the Southern Boulevard on Highway 231 South, across from Meriwether Road. There will be portable bathrooms on premise and the ponds are handicap accessible. There will be deputies at the road with emergency lights displayed so you can't miss it...JUST LOOK FOR THE FLASHING BLUE LIGHTS!

Please plan to be there between 5:30 & 6:00 am to get started fishing before the heat gets too unbearable. We will fish, if weather permits, until 12:00 Noon. Please do not bring children to this event as we have a Kids Fishing Rodeo annually in June for our youth to attend. We will provide snacks and drinks....you provide the bait and tackle and whatever you catch is yours to keep!

Think your teen may be "experimenting" with drugs, alcohol or tobacco? It's best to solve problems before they occur or get much worse. Unfortunately, "friends" often try harder to make kids who say "no" to drugs, alcohol and tobacco feel like outcasts. Home testing kits have emerged that protect privacy and provide kids with a socially acceptable excuse, "My parents test me." For years, police have been the first to know when local kids used drugs while their parents were often the last to know. Now there is a way to REVERSE that trend!

Montgomery County Sheriff's Office recently announced a new alliance with TestMyTeen.com, an organization that has donated free home drug test kit vouchers to be shared anonymously with parents who need them.

Go to our website http://www.MontgomerySheriff.com and click "Public Interest", then click "TEST MY TEEN" and follow the instructions...it's that simple!
