The people's voice of reason

From the Mayors desk

As the temperatures continue to rise, so does the excitement for all of the upcoming events and programs happening here in Wetumpka.

We have just been selected as a designated Main Street Community which will work with all of our downtown businesses to enhance downtown and business growth. The positive comments on Main Street have been overwhelming. We appreciate the buy-in we have received from not only the downtown businesses but the entire community. Positive steps like Main Street and the downtown re-development shine a great spotlight on this community and drive more developments and households our direction. We are all striving to make Wetumpka a great place to live, work and play. This is just the beginning of the many new projects and developments on the horizon.

A few other exciting events that are coming up are the 4th of July Celebration and Wetumpka’s River and Blues Music & Arts Festival. The 4th of July event has been a standing celebration for many years and we are excited to continue to provide quality entertainment to our citizens. Festivities will kick off at 6:00 p.m. in Gold Star Park with Kim Armstrong’s “A popular dance,” where audience members are taught popular dance moves. At 6:30 p.m. the band Wishbone will perform and of course, there will be free children’s activities throughout the evening. The night will conclude with a fireworks show at 9:00 p.m. I encourage everyone to bring their blankets and lawn chairs and come celebrate the 4th with us!
