We Must Support Law and Order

I feel like I am in the middle of a bad dream. Across our great country, spineless elected officials are turning our streets and neighborhoods over to angry mobs of looters and thieves. At this writing, in Seattle, unbelievably led by members of the City Council, 6 city blocks, including a police precinct, have been turned over to armed members of the anarchist group Antifa. Exact statistics are unknown, but there currently seems to be between 300-400 full-time squatters who have taken up residence in the so-called Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone. When you enter the zone, signs greet you reading “Property of the People” and “Leaving the USA.” The police have been ordered to stand idly by while residents and business owners are harassed and threatened. Anyone who speaks out against these anarchists is labelled a racist or worse.

Democrat politicians in Minneapolis, Los Angeles, and New York have embraced the calls to divert funding away from policing. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) calls the police a “cancer.”

According to FBI statistics, the number of unarmed African Americans shot and killed by police officers in all of 2019 was 10. These same statistics show that 89 law enforcement officers were killed in line-of-duty incidents in 2019.

Ninety-nine-point-ninety-nine percent of the thousands of law enforcement professionals in this country are good, honorable people who put their life on the line every day to protect and serve complete strangers like you and me.

It is just plain wrong to define the thousands of police officers in this country by one or two bad actors. The policeman that killed George Flynn must be prosecuted to the maximum extent of the law. We cannot, however, paint our men and women in blue as many in the Democratic party and their allies in the media have, as thugs and criminals.

The new narrative is to believe the accused against the police. In New York City the justice system has turned a blind eye to attacks on the police. The police now have resorted to suing attackers in civil court as they are not being held criminally liable. Criminal behavior is justified by today’s norms because of past injustices.

Everybody has a right to protest, but the right stops where my property line begins. Your right to protest does not give you a right to incite a riot. You have no right to loot and destroy public and private because you are mad. You certainly do not have the right to threaten someone with bodily harm because they hold different political views. We must support the rule of law or our country will disintegrate into chaos.

To quote Ronald: “We must reject the idea that every time a law’s broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.”

When you get a chance and see a Police Officer, please do as I do and give them a thumbs up and a big “Thank You.” The local police are our country’s backbone and guarantor of our civil society. We must always remain vigilant and support people’s right to protest peacefully while not giving into the demands of angry mobs.
