Auburn women defeated in first round of NCAA tournament

The Auburn women's basketball team was defeated by Arizona 69 to 59 in the NCAA tournament.

The Tigers performance was marred by 17 first half turnovers which created a deficit that Auburn just couldn't recover from. Auburn got within 5 points in the second half; but they just couldn't quite dig their way out of the problems that that disastrous second quarter created.

Honesty Scott-Grayson led Auburn with 13 points. Yakiya Milton contributed 8 points and 3 rebounds. Taylen Collins had 6 points and 4 rebounds.

Auburn head coach is Johnnie Harris.

"We turned the ball over," Coach Harris said. "We took care of the ball better in the second half. We had 17 (turnovers) in the first half, the second half we cleaned that up a little bit. But those first-half turnovers absolutely killed us."

This was the first NCAA tournament appearance for the Auburn women since 2019.

The defeat means that the Lady Tigers finish the 2023/2024 season 20 to 12.

The Auburn men's basketball team plays their own NCAA tournament game against Yale on Friday.
