UAB plays Wichita State on Friday in conference tournament

The UAB men's basketball will play Wichita State in the quarterfinals of the American Conference Tournament on Friday. The game will be played in Fort Worth, Texas at 2:00 p.m. CDT. It will be televised on ESPN2.

The Blazers have the number four seed in the AAC Tournament.

UAB forward Yaxel Lendeborg was named AAC Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference. Lendeborg is averaging 13.7 points per game and 10.4 rebounds per game. Eric Gaines is averaging 12.0 points per game and 3.8 rebounds per game. Alejandro Vasquez is averaging 10.9 points per game and 3.6 rebounds per game. Effron Johnson is averaging 10.7 points per game and 2.3 rebounds per game.

UAB finished the 2023/2024 season 12 and 6 in the AAC conference and with a 20 and 11 record overall.

Andy Kennedy is the head coach of the Blazers.

Since UAB is coming in as the number four team in a mid-major conference. There is probably not going to be four teams taken from the AAC. This means that UAB is under a lot of pressure to win Friday in order to improve their resume in order to receive an NCAA tournament berth. UAB narrowly missed the tournament in 2022/2023. Last year's team advanced all the way to the NIT championship game.
