The University of Alabama softball team advanced to the third round of the NCAA regional in Tuscaloosa on Saturday with the defeat of Southeastern Louisiana 6 to 3.
The Crimson Tide ladies had already defeated the University of South Carolina Upstate in a 1 to 0 pitcher's duel on Friday and enters Sunday's game 2 and 0 in the double elimination regional.
The Alabama softball team is hosting the NCAA regional at Rhoads Field in Tuscaloosa May 17 to 19.
Clemson lost to both Southeastern Louisiana and the University of South Carolina Upstate thus is eliminated from the tournament. Southeastern Louisiana defeated South Carolina Upstate Saturday night to advance to the regional championship game.
If Alabama defeats Southeastern Louisiana again they will advance to play the winner of the NCAA regional at Tennessee. If Alabama loses on Sunday, they will play Southeastern Louisiana again on Monday for the regional.
This is the 19th-straight year that the ladies have hosted a NCAA Regional in Tuscaloosa.
Alabama (35 and 17) is the number 14 seeded team nationally.
Patrick Murphy is the Tide's head coach. The Tide softball team has advanced to the college world series 14 times in his tenure and were the winner of the 2012 national championship. He has been the head coach at Alabama since 1995.
