Auburn softball is in NCAA playoffs

The Auburn University softball team is going to Tallahassee to play in the NCAA playoffs. The lady Tigers finished the season 27 – 19 and 1 (9 and 15 in the SEC).

Auburn will play the University of Central Florida on Friday, May 17 in the Tallahassee Regional, which is hosted by Florida State University. FSU is the number 15 seed in the tournament.

The Auburn versus UCF game will begin at 1:00 p.m. CDT on Friday and will be televised on ESPNU.

UCF has a 30-23 overall record with a 12-15 record in the Big 12 Conference.

FSU will play Chattanooga on Friday at 3:30 p.m. CDT. That game will be televised by the ACC Network.

Auburn softball's head coach is Mickey Dean.

"No matter who you face in postseason, they are going to be a talented team," said head coach Mickey Dean. "We've got to show up and play clean softball. We've been there before. We know what to expect as far as the stadium and the crowd noise."

The team that comes out of the Tallahassee Regional will advance to play the winner of the Norman Regional, hosted by Oklahoma.

This is Dean's seventh season as Auburn's head coach and the sixth time that he has led Auburn to the NCAA playoffs (the playoffs were cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic). Before coming to Auburn, he was the head coach at James Madison and Radford. He is the second winningest coach in Auburn softball history. This will be Dean's final season as the head coach of the Tigers as he announced his pending retirement last month.
