South Alabama softball headed back to the NCAA tournament

This weekend the University of South Alabama softball team will be playing in the NCAA Regionals at the Gainesville Regional hosted by the third-seeded Florida Atlantic Friday at 1:30 p.m. CDT at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.

South Alabama is 32-18 and 1 overall with a 16 and 8 finish in the Sun Belt Conference.

Florida Atlantic comes in with a 41 and 14 record – 20 and 6 in the American Athletic Conference.

The lady Jaguars advanced to the semifinal round of the Sun Belt Conference tournament by defeating the University of Louisiana at Monroe, 4-3 in 12 innings in the quarterfinals. The Jaguars lost to eventual tournament champion Texas State – the tournament host.

Becky Clark is the head coach of the Jaguars. She is in her 16th year as the head coach – the only coach in the history of the program. South Alabama has had 4 40+ win seasons under her tenure. The Briarfield, Alabama native was the Sun Belt Coach of the Year in 2011 and 2022. Clark played at Troy University and Mobile.

This is South Alabama's first NCAA Regional since 2021 and the sixth in the history of the program.
