UCLA defeats Alabama in first game of the softball College World Series

The University of Alabama softball team fell 1 to 4 in the College Softball World Series to UCLA. The Tide ladies will face either Oklahoma or Duke in an elimination game Friday at 6 p.m. CDT. The game will be televised on ESPN.

Alabama falls to 38 and 19 on the season, while UCLA improves to 43 and 10 on the year.

UCLA scored first in the third inning. Alabama tied it up in the fifth inning; but left the inning with the bases loaded. This would come back to haunt the Tide. UCLA took the lead in the sixth inning with a three-run homerun by Jordan Woolery.

Kayla Beaver (18 and 10) took the loss for the Tide.

Patrick Murphy is the Tide head coach.

"UCLA had an opportunity to win it and they did it on one good swing," said Murphy. "Both sides played well, and it was just a really good softball game."

This is the Tide's fifteenth college softball world series appearance. They won it in 2012.
