The UAB Blazers football team traveled to Arkansas on September 14 and picked up their second loss of the season. UAB was stepping up in class to play a Southeastern Conference powerhouse – the Arkansas Razorbacks. UAB looked much improved over its week 2 performance against ULM; but still picked up the L – 27 to 37. UAB has started the season 1 and 2.
The game was tied at halftime at 20 points; but Arkansas dominated the second half 7 to 17.
UAB moved the ball at will racking up 354 yards of total offense. UAB quarterback Jacob Zeno completed 23 passes on just 32 attempts for 235 yards and three touchdowns. Zeno had one interception late in the game off of a deflection.
UAB added 119 rushing yards for good offensive balance. Isaiah Jacobs ran the ball 15 times for 62 yards. Amare Thomas led UAB in receiving with 5 catches for 56 yards.
What UAB failed at was stopping the run. Arkansas ran the ball for 266 yards. Arkansas quarterback Tayler Green added 161 yards through the air on 11 completions in 26 attempts.
Arkansas running back Ja'Quinden Jackson rushed for 147 yards and a touchdown on just 15 touches.
This UAB head coach Trent Dilfer's second season with the Blazers. Dilfer was a Super Bowl winning quarterback with the Baltimore Ravens. He is a former ESPN analyst and high school coach.
The Blazers play Navy at home at Protective Stadium September 28 to open AAC conference play.
Arkansas will be in Alabama this week playing the Auburn Tigers.
