UAB can't finish the deal against the University of South Alabama

October 19, 2024 – the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) football team played much better than in recent weeks; but it ultimately was not enough to overcome the tenacity of the University of South Florida (USF).

UAB had a five point lead late in the fourth quarter; but UAB was ultimately overrun by a determined comeback by USF and lost 25 to 35. UAB was outscored 15 to 6 in the fourth quarter.

UAB Quarterback Jalen Kitna had arguably his best game as a Blazer in the loss – completing 33 balls on 56 attempts for 384 yards and two touchdowns. He also threw one interception. UAB rushed for 101 yards.

UAB had 485 yards of total offense to just 355 yards for USF; which is a dramatic improvement over the Tulane game and the games against the two service academies. UAB held South Florida to just 201 yards passing.

UAB won the opener and pushed Arkansas hard; but since then the Blazers have struggled. This is the sixth straight loss for UAB, who falls to 1 and 6 overall and 0 and 4 in the conference. USF improves to 3 and 4 on the season and could potentially be bowl eligible with a strong finish on the season.

This is head Coach Trent Dilfer's second season. He was 4 and 8 in his first season and is 1 and 6 thus far in his second season. Dilfer has gotten criticism from many in and outside the UAB football community. There is growing speculation that UAB might make a coaching change at the end of the year.

This was a bad week for state of Alabama football as UAB, Alabama, and Auburn all lost games in which they had fourth quarter leads. https://herosports.com/fbs-trent-dilfer-hot-seat-fired-candidates-uab-football-head-coach-replacement-cpcp/

Next on UAB's schedule is Tulsa on November 2 at Protective Life Stadium in Birmingham.
