Former President Biden has aggressive prostate cancer

May 19, 2025 – Former President Joseph R. Biden (D) has stage four prostate cancer that has metastasized to the bone.

The 82 year old Biden left office in January as the oldest man to ever serve as President of the United States. Concerns about his health and his fitness to serve after a disastrous debate performance against former President Donald J. Trump (R) last June ultimately led him to drop out of the Presidential race in late July. Trump then easily beat former Vice President Kamala Harris in the general election. Many Democrats, including most recently former Transportation Secretary, have suggested that President Biden would have performed better than VP Harris did.

The cancer is very advanced; but prostate cancer is treatable.

According to the American Cancer Society one out of eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer at some point during their lifetimes. It is the second-leading cause of cancer death in American men, with lung cancer being the first.

The Hill is reporting that Biden's diagnosis is serious, but it is treatable. It cannot be cured.

President Bide was diagnosed last week after he experienced increasing urinary symptoms. On Friday they diagnosed that the cancer has metastasized to his bones.

President Donald J. Trump in a statement on Sunday said that he and first lady Melania Trump were "saddened" to hear about Biden's diagnosis. "We wish Joe a fast and successful recovery."

Prostate cancer kills 35,000 a year in the U.S.

Biden's doctors reported in February 2024 that he was "fit to serve" after a routine physical at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

No prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test was conducted in that physical.

The Hill interviewed Geoffrey Sonn, an associate professor of urology at Stanford University School of Medicine.

"I think that it's likely that if he had continued screening against pretty much all guidelines, that they probably would have found this earlier," said Dr. Sonn. Sonn said that it is common practice to stop screenings for men in their 80s so he is not surprised that the test was not given.

The reason for not screening men past age 70 is there is little benefit in doing a screening for people with only 10 to 15 years of life expectancy left.

President Trump is 78, he had his PSA levels tested in April, The White House says that his PSA levels were normal.

President Trump, in comments to reporters, questioned why Biden's cancer was not diagnosed sooner.

There is a growing controversy about whether or not the Biden administration his President Biden's growing mental and physical decline from the public.

The diagnoses comes just days before the release of Alex Thompson and Jake Tapper's "Original Sin," a book that claims that Biden's cognitive and physical abilities were in decline while in office.
