ALGOP Announces Qualifying for HD63 Special Election

June 19, 2025 - There will be only two business days - Friday and Monday to qualify for the HD63 Special Election

The Alabama Republican Party announces the opening of candidate qualifying for the special election in State House District 63. Qualifying will begin on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. CDT and will close on Monday, June 23, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. CDT.

Individuals interested in running for the Republican nomination may qualify online at http://www.algop.org or in person at ALGOP Headquarters, located at 3505 Lorna Road, Hoover, AL 35216.

House District 63, which encompasses portions of Tuscaloosa County, was previously represented by State Representative Cynthia Almond. The seat became vacant following her appointment by Governor Kay Ivey to serve as President of the Alabama Public Service Commission.

ALGOP Chief of Staff Shannon Whitt praised Rep. Almond's contributions to the legislature and congratulated her on the new role:

"Representative Cynthia Almond has been an outstanding legislator, consistently advancing thoughtful and impactful legislation that has benefitted not only her district but the entire state. Whitt also reaffirmed the Party's dedication to ensuring strong conservative representation in the district:

The special election dates are as follows:

Special Primary Election: Tuesday, September 30, 2025

Special Primary Runoff (if needed): Tuesday, October 28, 2025

Special General Election: Tuesday, January 13, 2026
