June 17, 2025 – Senator Katie Boyd Britt (R-Alabama) warned that the nation of Iran with nuclear weapons would pose a threat to global security.
"Iran is the largest state sponsor of terrorism in the world, and its possession of nuclear weapons would pose an existential threat to the U.S. and world," Sen. Britt said on her X social media account.
Britt shared comments from Auburn Men's Basketball Head Coach Bruce Pearl praising Britt for her stand against antisemitism.
These comments were made as the Israel – Iran conflict threatens to escalate.
Late on Monday, President Donald J. Trump (R) left the G7 Summit in Canada after just one day. The Iran -Israel conflict appears to be at the center of why the G7 Summit came apart after just hours. Speculation is rampant as to why Trump left the meeting with American allies.
"Publicity seeking President Emmanuel Macron, of France, mistakenly said that I left the G7 Summit, in Canada, to go back to D.C. to work on a "cease fire" between Israel and Iran," said Trump in a post on Truth Social. "Wrong! He has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire. Much bigger than that. Whether purposely or not, Emmanuel always gets it wrong. Stay Tuned!"
President Trump had been in negotiations with Iran trying to get them to end their nuclear weapons program. After 60 days of negotiations Israel gave up on negotiations and began a series of air strikes in an attempt to degrade Iran's nuclear weapons production capability before they get the bomb.
"Iran should have signed the "deal" I told them to sign," President Trump said on Truth Social. "What a shame, and waste of human life. Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. I said it over and over again! Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!"
Iran is led by 86-year-old Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. His top military and security advisers have been killed by Israeli air strikes. Since Friday, Khamenei's main military advisers have been getting killed (in some cases along with their families) by Israeli attacks. The Revolutionary Guards are Iran's elite military force. Much like Nazi Germany where Hitler had the German Army (the Wehrmacht and the Waffen SS); Iran has the Iranian military and the Revolutionary Guard. The RG answer directly to the Supreme Leader. The Revolutionary Guards' overall commander Hossein Salami has been killed by the Israelis. So has its aerospace chief Amir Ali Hajizadeh who headed Iran's ballistic missile program as well as Iranian spymaster Mohammad Kazemi.
Since the October 7, 2023 attacks on Israel – attacks financed by Iran – the Israelis have systematically degraded the capabilities of all of Iran's allies and proxy forces. Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, the Assad regime in Syria, and the Houthi rebels in Yemen have all been killed or pounded to a point that can no longer support Iran militarily.
Khamenei was imprisoned by the Shah before the 1979 revolution. The Ayatollah Khomeini seized control of the Iranian government – once America's strongest ally in the region – freeing Khamenei. He became leader in 1989. His son Mojtaba appears to be the heir apparent.
Israel has F16s, F35s, and F/A15s supplied by the United States; but it does not have heavy bombers. There is a possibility that the only way that Trump can be sure that Iran's nuclear facilities – deep underground in bunkers – are destroyed is by the United States using its heavy bunker buster bombs.
If the President gives that order, large numbers of B52, B1, and B2 bombers are already deployed (along with a lot of strike fighters) at Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean. On Monday, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth order the Nimitz aircraft carrier attack group to head to the region. He also ordered two Navy destroyers to detach from their group in the Mediterranean to the region.
