Pete Mohler is named as the new President of the University of Alabama

June 16, 2025 - TUSCALOOSA, AL - Dr. Peter Mohler is named The University of Alabama's 30th President.

With qualifications that sound perfect for UAB, Dr. Peter Mohler, has nevertheless been announced as the new president for The University of Alabama. He comes from The Ohio State University where he has been since 2011. At Ohio State, he is currently the Chief Scientific Officer of Ohio State University's Wexner Medical Center. As well as the Innovations and Knowledge Executive Vice President of The Ohio State University.

While a native of Grand Junction, Colorado, Dr. Mohler has previously spent time in the southeastern part of the United States. For he earned his Bachelor's degree in 1995 from Wake Forest University. And his PhD in cell and molecular physiology from UNC - Chapel Hill. A strong academic, Dr. Mohler's research has focused on studying the genetic and cellular mechanisms underlying abnormal heart rhythms and heart failure. While also developing new diagnostics and therapies for heart disease.

Dr. Mohler was unanimously selected by the UA System's Board of Trustees to take the helm of The University of Alabama beginning on July 21st, upon the retirement of Stuart Bell as President of Alabama. His excitement in fulfilling this new role is evident with his statements about Alabama being poised to ascend to becoming one of the nation's "premier public flagship universities". Seeing the future of the Capstone as "incredibly bright".

Coupled with his strong academic research credentials, Dr. Mohler is also familiar with the college football culture of both universities. For Ohio State is the current National Championship titleholder in college football, for a total of 9 in their football history. Yet, Dr. Mohler has already adapted from being a buckeye to a Crimson Tider, as his wife is looking forward to sipping some sweet tea. And Dr. Mohler has right away stated, "Roll Tide!"

The details of Dr. Mohler's compensation have not been revealed, as of yet. However, the outgoing president of Alabama's total salary was approaching a million. Dr. Mohler and his wife, Nancy, have three children.
