May 18, 2025 – WETUMPKA, AL - The Montgomery Senators 7U Travel Ball baseball team won the championship of the Platinum Division in the 2025 King of Coach Pitch Tournament at the Wetumpka Sports Complex.
The Senators are led by Coach Jason Pate.
This team of up and coming seven-year-olds have been together since 2024. During which time they have grown a lot by participating in a number of tournaments throughout the River Region and beyond.
They have excelled in many of the tournaments they participated in over the past year and a but never quite took the big trophy, often being the Runner Up. Finally on May 18 in Wetumpka all of their hard work and perseverance paid off with the win over the very talented Maximum Exposure Expos 7U. The Senators won a nail biter 14-13 in the bottom of the 6th Inning.
It was a very long game that went late into the night due to a number of rain and lightning delays.
The Senators had led all day; but the Expos were mounting a come from behind effort that threatened to take the game away until finally the Senators prevailed when Miles Hooper singled up the middle. This shot drove in William Hawke for the winning run. The Expos had led by as much as seven runs taking an early 8-1 lead, but that early lead had evaporated by the sixth inning.
The Senators did a good job at hitting with runners on base. They collected 13 total runs on just 21 hits.
The batters thoroughly dominated the pitchers as every player from both teams got at least one hit on the day. The Senators defense made a number of key plays in later innings to keep the Expos from taking the lead down the stretch.
The Senators' defense was led by Cole Farrior, Knox Pate, Grayson Estes, Emmett Dunn, and Miles Hooper. Their scoring was led by Skip Sellars, Shep Tomlinson, and Manning Adams.
