In celebration of the 150th year anniversary of the Alabama Department of Public Health, the Montgomery County Health Department invites the public to attend an open house on Thursday, July 24. The open house will be held from 9 a.m. until 12 noon at the facility at 3060 Mobile Highway, Montgomery.
"We would love it if you could swing by and help us celebrate 150 years of ADPH," County Administrator Kevin Hicks said. "We plan to highlight the many services we provide and answer any questions you may have."
The Montgomery County Health Department offers the public WIC, environmental, home care, and clinical services. Clinical services include STD testing and treatment, family planning, childhood and other vaccines, Well Woman, and breast and cervical cancer screening. Certified copies of birth, death, marriage, and divorce certificates may be obtained from this health department. Vaccines for overseas travel are available for a fee. The auditorium can seat 400, and two classrooms, each seating 70, are available not only to staff but also to community groups.
County health departments throughout the state are commemorating 150 years of service to the public. The vision of healthy people, healthy communities, and a healthy Alabama has endured well into the 21st Century since its founding in 1875. The department has endeavored to improve the health of the state's citizens, investigated, and helped contain outbreaks of infectious diseases, and to help prevent the wide range of diseases associated with poor hygiene, poor sanitation, and poor nutrition.
