Manhunt Underway After Officer-Involved Shooting in Jackson County

July 26, 2025 - SCOTTSBORO, AL - A Blue Alert has been issued by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) following a shooting that left a Scottsboro Police Department officer wounded early Saturday morning. The incident occurred during a domestic disturbance response on Ruth Street, resulting in a large-scale manhunt for the suspect, identified as Daniel Victor McCarn, 29, of Huntsville.

According to ALEA's Fusion Center, McCarn fled the scene and crashed his vehicle near U.S. Highway 72 and County Park Road, where he reportedly opened fire on law enforcement officers before escaping on foot. Authorities describe him as a white male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing approximately 170 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He is considered armed and dangerous.

A coordinated search effort is currently in progress involving multiple agencies, including ALEA's State Bureau of Investigation, Highway Patrol Division, and federal partners such as the FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, and ATF. Drones and ground teams are actively scanning the area for McCarn, who was last seen in the vicinity of County Park Road.

The injured officer has been transported to Huntsville Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

Public Safety Measures

In response to the unfolding situation, U.S. Highway 72 has been closed in both directions. Several local businesses, including Bruce's Foodland and Cloverdale Rehabilitation Center, have delayed openings or restricted access to ensure community safety.

ALEA urges anyone with information about McCarn's whereabouts to immediately call 911 and refrain from approaching him.

Updates will be provided as the situation evolves.
