Phillip Pettus Announces Campaign for Alabama House of Representatives

July 30, 2025 - FLORENCE, AL – Today, Phillip Pettus announced his candidacy for re-election to the Alabama House of Representatives, District 1. A Republican committed to the values of limited government, fiscal responsibility, and strong local communities, Pettus enters the race with a clear record of results and a bold vision for Alabama's future.

"As your representative, I've fought to protect your hard-earned dollars and defend the conservative values that make our state strong," said Pettus. "I'm proud of the work we've done, but there's more to do-and I'm ready to continue delivering for the people of District 1."

Proven Conservative Leadership

During his time in the Legislature, Pettus has championed commonsense reforms to safeguard taxpayers and strengthen communities. He has supported hundreds of millions in tax cuts for Alabama families, including the reduction of the state tax on groceries, the largest tax cut in Alabama history.

A staunch supporter of President Donald Trump's America First agenda, Pettus shares the President's priorities of securing our nation's borders, protecting American jobs, and putting families first. "I proudly support President Trump because he fights for the same values I do-faith, freedom, and fairness," Pettus noted.

Property Tax Caps

In 2024, Pettus sponsored and passed a statewide bill capping property tax increases, ensuring Alabama families are protected from sudden spikes in property taxes. Now law, the cap on property tax increases went into effect in 2025 and prohibits property taxes from increasing more than 7% in a year.

Pettus also authored and passed a local bill specifically exempting seniors in Lauderdale County from property tax increases, helping Lauderdale seniors better manage inflation and a rising cost of living. In November of 2024, Lauderdale voters overwhelmingly voted to adopt Pettus' constitutional amendment with 96% of the vote.

Focused on Results for North Alabama

Pettus has made infrastructure a top priority, supporting critical investments in roads, bridges, and broadband that have helped connect and revitalize communities across North Alabama. At the same time, he has consistently worked to pass responsible, conservative budgets-cutting waste while ensuring essential services like education, public safety, and veterans' programs are funded.

"Our people deserve good roads, safe neighborhoods, and strong schools-and they deserve a government that does more with less," said Pettus. "That's what I've delivered, and that's what I'll keep fighting for."
