ALGOP Announces Qualifying for HD38 Special Election

August 17, 2025 - HOOVER AL - The Alabama Republican Party today announced the opening of candidate qualifying for the special election in Alabama House District 38, which encompasses portions of Chambers and Lee Counties.

Qualifying will begin at 8:30 a.m. CDT on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, and will close at 5:00 p.m. CDT on Wednesday, August 20, 2025.

Republican candidates may qualify online at http://www.algop.org or in person at ALGOP Headquarters, located at 3505 Lorna Road, Hoover, AL 35216.

This seat became vacant following the announcement that State Representative Debbie Wood is relocating from the east Alabama district, due to her husband Bobby's new job in Pensacola, Florida.

"House District 38 has a proud history of electing Republican leaders who reflect the values and priorities of east Alabama. Representative Debbie Wood has served the people of Chambers and Lee Counties with honor and integrity, and we are grateful for her years of service in the Alabama Legislature," said Chairman Wahl. "I especially want to thank Representative Wood for her work on important ALGOP priorities, including post-election audits and the Harold Sachs–Anne Roberts Act. This law-named in honor of our late Chief of Staff Harold Sachs and Anne Roberts, the wife of State Senator Dan Roberts-ensures patients can have access to their loved ones during a pandemic. This cause is especially close to our hearts, as both Harold and Anne tragically passed away alone during the COVID pandemic. Representative Wood's leadership in championing this bill has left a lasting impact on families across Alabama, and I thank her for her service to our state."

"The Alabama Republican Party is committed to ensuring that the people of District 38 continue to have a conservative voice fighting for them in Montgomery. We encourage all qualified Republicans who are ready to serve their community and defend the principles of limited government, economic opportunity, and individual liberty to step forward during this special election process," he continued.

The special election dates are as follows:

Special Primary Election: Tuesday, October 21, 2025

Special Primary Runoff (if needed): Tuesday, November 18, 2025

Special General Election: Tuesday, February 3, 2026
