Rodney Walker launches campaign for U.S. Senate

August 14, 2025 – OXFORD, AL – Businessman and cattleman Rodney Walker launched his campaign for U.S. Senate with a barbecue at Hubbard's on Main restaurant in historic downtown Oxford.

Walker announced that he was running as a Republican for the open U.S. Senate seat to a capacity crowd that enjoyed good food, fellowship, and live music from a country western band.

"My name is Rodney Walker, and I'm a Republican businessman running for the United States Senate," said Walker. "I'm a husband, a father, a grandfather, and in 1982, I gave my life to Christ. I am not a career politician." "I'm running to continue and expand the MAGA agenda."

Walker promised that if elected he will:

"Introduce legislation to tariff imported prescription drugs in order to bring all pharmaceutical drug manufacturing back to the United States." "I will seek a position on the Senate Agriculture Committee where I can promote the American farm and timber products to new foreign markets in order to provide a long-term sustainable income for our farmers." "Introduce legislation and continue to protect the American food supply from being infiltrated with foreign beef, pork and vegetables from other countries."

Walker also promised that he would work to stop, "The purchase of our homeland to foreign adversaries like China and Russia."

Walker said that inflation has caused many hardworking Alabamians to no longer be able to afford to purchase a new home. Walker lamented that new cars now cost $50,000 or more and a truck can cost up to $100,000.

"I see the purchasing power of those paychecks dwindle away in real time while most of the Political Class plays the fiddle," said Walker., America is burning – the America we know and love is in grave danger unless we can put more back in the pockets of the hardworking people who get up everyday and make it happen."

Walker said that while the stock market is at record highs and corporate profits are soaring Alabama farmers are only getting $3.82 a bushel for their corn and just $9.88 a bushel for soybeans – both dramatic decreases from where they were a decade ago.

"We must have a Senator that understands these issues and stands up for the people of Alabama," said Walker."

At just 21 years old, Walker opened his first business-a small school and office supply store-which blossomed into a series of endeavors including building houses, real estate, fueling centers, a wholesale fuel supply company, and a rock quarry. He proudly recounted starting over 1,000 jobs for Alabamians, always ensuring he was the last to be paid, illustrating his commitment to fairness and responsibility. Walker also served as a reserve deputy for 8 years where his skills as a sniper and commercial helicopter pilot were put to good use in service to his neighbors and community.

Walker credited his World War II veteran grandfathers for teaching him that "hard work will not kill you," for his success. From mowing lawns and working at his father's office machine store to eventually building a thriving cattle farm from scratch, Walker's life has been marked by tireless effort and entrepreneurial spirit. His farm, which began in high school in 1985, has since grown to cover 3,000 acres and 750 mama cows.- a testament to years of dedication and growth.

Thursday's event was attended by a number of dignitaries including members of the Oxford City Council, former State Senator Gerald Dial, former State Representative Gil Isbel, St. Clair County Republican Party Chairman retired presiding Judge Phil Seav and Oxford Mayor Alton Craft.

The near capacity crowd enjoyed live country western music, good food, while socializing with Walker and his extended family. Supporters were able to pick up their Walker for Senatesigns and t-shirts.

Walker is facing a crowded field that includes Attorney General Steve Marshall, former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson, and Congressman Barry Moore with more entrants expected. Marshall has led in early polling that did not include Walker. Moore has just formally entered the Senate race; but most political observers had long expected that he would enter the race.

Incumbent Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Alabama) is giving up the Senate after just one term to run for Governor of Alabama in 2026. This seat has been previously held by Howell Heflin (D), Jeff Sessions (R), Luther Strange (R), and Doug Jones (D). Tuberville unseated Jones in a landslide in 2025.

The Republican primary is May 19, 2026.
