Troy wins opening game

August 30, 2025 - TROY, AL - The Troy Trojans kicked off their 2025 football season with a 38–20 win over Nicholls in front of their home crowd on Saturday. It was a tale of two halves-Troy trailed early but exploded for 28 points in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

Quarterback Goose Crowder led the charge with 144 passing yards and 3 total touchdowns, including a clutch 28-yard strike to Tray Taylor and a 16-yard rushing score. Running back Tae Meadows was a beast on the ground, racking up 186 rushing yards and a touchdown on 23 carries.

Troy's defense also stepped up, recording 4 sacks and 8 tackles for loss, holding Nicholls to just 249 total yards and a 4-of-11 third-down conversion rate.

Coach Gerad Parker said, "'I a very happy for our football team, our program, our staff and our players. I said it already in one interview, but I think a huge testament goes to the training and the shape of our football team to play that much of a game early in the year. It was a huge testament to our depth and stamina, and I'm really excited for our fan base to open up an event and get a much-needed win in front of a great crowd tonight."

Troy plays Clemson next week. Clemson was defeated by LSU in their opener.
