Tuberville Blames Leftist Rhetoric for Charlie Kirk's Death, Slams CDC Leadership in Senate Hearing

September 19, 2025 - WASHINGTON, D.C. - In a fiery appearance on Fox Business's "The Bottom Line," U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) condemned what he described as dangerous rhetoric from Democratic leaders and progressive institutions, linking it to the recent assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Tuberville also criticized the performance of recently fired CDC Director Susan Monarez during a Senate HELP Committee hearing, accusing her of misleading the public and failing to follow directives from the Trump administration.

Condemning the Left's Response to Charlie Kirk's Murder

Joined by guest hosts Lisa Boothe and Brian Brenberg, Tuberville expressed outrage over what he called attempts by Democrats and media outlets to downplay the ideological motivations behind Kirk's killer. Boothe opened the segment by questioning whether the Left's framing of the murder as a "twisted love story" was an attempt to excuse the perpetrator and embolden future violence.

Tuberville responded bluntly: "They have no excuse. They've lied to the American people-about the border, about our debt, about our education-and now they're trying to spin this tragedy as anything but the result of their own rhetoric." He praised Vice President J.D. Vance for calling out the Left's role and insisted that Democrats "own every bit of it."

The senator also criticized teachers' union chief Randi Weingarten, accusing her of profiting from divisive narratives and undermining public education. "She's made a fortune," Tuberville said. "She pushed the COVID school closures while sending her own kids to private schools. It's hypocrisy at the highest level."

Tuberville argued that the current education system is failing students and fueling ideological extremism. "If a kid gets an education now, it comes from their parents or from being self-motivated," he said. "What's being taught in schools today is hate-not reading, writing, or critical thinking."

On the Path Forward

When asked by Boothe what path forward exists in such a polarized climate, Tuberville emphasized the importance of standing firm in conservative values. He praised Kirk's legacy as a campus educator and debater, lamenting the loss of someone who "taught more young people than woke academia ever could."

Tuberville warned that continued tolerance of radical rhetoric could lead to more violence. "Mental illness has taken over the Democratic Party," he said. "If they keep condoning it, more people will lose their lives."

HELP Committee Grills Fired CDC Director

The conversation shifted to Tuberville's participation in the Senate HELP Committee hearing with former CDC Director Susan Monarez. Brenberg noted Monarez's apparent memory lapses during questioning and asked Tuberville for his impressions.

"She was a wolf in sheep's clothing," Tuberville said. "She came to my office a month ago and presented herself one way. At the hearing, she couldn't remember basic facts and contradicted her own statements."

Tuberville accused Monarez of failing to remove diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) content from the CDC website, despite being directed to do so by President Trump. "She said she removed it. I checked 30 minutes later-it was still up," he said. "She forgot who her boss was and didn't follow through on anything. She needed to be fired."

Closing Remarks

Senator Tuberville, who represents Alabama and serves on the Senate Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans' Affairs, HELP, and Aging Committees, concluded the interview by reaffirming his commitment to holding federal agencies accountable and defending conservative principles in the face of what he views as escalating ideological hostility.
