ADF Seeking Prayers And Donations In Chiles v. Salazar Counseling Free Speech Case

As a licensed professional counselor in Colorado, Kaley Chiles' motto is "If you don't make time for your wellness, you will be forced to take time for your illness." According to her profile with the Deeper Stories Counseling center in Colorado, she has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biblical Studies with a minor in psychology and a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health. In her counseling center she offers Christian counseling or counseling that integrates faith upon request. It is a seemingly innocuous offer. However, it is precisely that offer that is leading Kaley Chiles to take a freedom of speech case all the way up to The United States Supreme Court.

For many of the clientele that seek out Kaley Chiles for Christian counseling or counseling that integrates faith are minors who are dealing with issues pertaining to same-sex attractions or gender identity concerns. As a Christian, Kaley Chiles believes that people flourish when they live consistently with God's design, including their biological sex. Yet, such ideas are now controversial under Colorado law as it prohibits counseling conversations with minors that might encourage them to change their "sexual orientation or gender identity, including efforts to change behaviors or gender expressions". Leaving counselors with only one option to help minors who are struggling with gender identity issues – dangerous drugs and irreversible surgeries.

With gender identity issues often stemming from other issues underneath the surface, as a professional counselor, Kaley Chiles feels it is unconscionable to limit a counselor's freedom of speech to only costly and dangerous transgender surgeries for minors. Which has led her to file this action for declaratory and injunctive relief against the Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies, members of the Colorado Board of Licensed Professional Counselor Examiners, and the Colorado Board of Addiction Counselor Examiners. With the Christian legal defense team, Alliance Defending Freedom, representing Kaley Chiles in her case styled Chiles v. Salazar before The United States Supreme Court. A case that has progressed through the legal pipeline to where they are now set for oral arguments before the Supreme Court on October 07th, 2025.

The main issue being presented before The United States Supreme Court in the Chiles v. Salazar case is, "Whether a law that censors certain conversations between counselors and their clients based on the viewpoints expressed regulates conduct or violates the Free Speech Clause." The Alliance Defending Freedom sees a victory in Kaley Chiles' case as having the potential to help roll back counselor censorship laws in 23 states across the USA. And as such they are begging people to commit to being prayer warriors for the oral arguments on October 07th and to make donations to help fund this legal battle. As the Alliance Defending Freedom is a Christian legal organization that was founded in 1994. To date, they've won 80% of their cases. With ADF counting 16 victories at the U.S. Supreme Court level among that percentage. And the Alliance Defending Freedom set to argue four cases before the United State Supreme court in just this term.
