It took a long time for Churches and Christians to harness the power of Hollywood films for good. Beginning with Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ" in 2004, box office receipts have shown that there is a large and ever-growing audience for faith-based films. With some of the notable Christian based films such as "Fireproof" managing to become a success in spite of being filmed on a shoestring budget.
Furthermore, Christian films are even breaking records as shown by the 2025 animated movie, "The King of Kings". An animated movie which was a retelling of the life of Christ from the point of view of an unpublished Charles Dickens novel and has become the highest-grossing Korean film in the U.S. market. With "The King of Kings" reporting a $76.8 million worldwide gross in box office receipts.
Yet, success often draws the ire of those who are envious or simply resentful of another's success. And in the Christian film world, it isn't taking long for mainstream Hollywood to try and subvert the success of the Faith-Based film market. Which such subversion being exemplified by the soon to be released motion picture, "The Carpenter's Son". A Franco-American horror movie supposedly portraying the childhood of Jesus in Egypt based on the gospel of Thomas, a non-canonical sayings gospel that differs significantly from The Good News Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
In, "The Carpenter's Son", Nicolas Cage is portraying Joseph, the stepfather of Jesus in a very traumatized fashion. As "the boy" in the film is shown to be rebelling against his guardian by drawing the forces of darkness towards his family with his supernatural powers. And the shrouded body of Jesus is shown as screaming in a demonic fashion.
Curiously enough, while modern day historians are intent upon changing how people write historical dates such as changing "B.C." to "B.C.E." and changing "A.D." to "C. E" with "C.E." being short for "the common era". "The Carpenter's Son" is making it clear that it is a reference to Jesus Christ with its announcement that it will be released in the "Fall of 2025 A.D." With A.D. being an abbreviation for "Anno Domini" which is Medieval Latin for "in the year of The Lord".
Given the disrespectful content of the horror film, One Million Moms, is urging people to avoid the motion picture and sign a petition urging Magnolia Pictures to cancel their planned release of "this dark and blasphemous film". With those who are interested in signing the petition being able to do so at https://onemillionmoms.com/current-campaigns/warning-upcoming-and-unsettling-horror-film-portraying-the-holy-family/
