Troy Trojans Head North for Tough Road Test Against Buffalo Bulls

BUFFALO, NY - September 20, 2025 - The Troy Trojans (1–2) will look to rebound from a difficult stretch when they travel to upstate New York to face the Buffalo Bulls (2–1) at UB Stadium this Saturday. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT and will stream live on ESPN+.

This Week 4 matchup marks the final non-conference game of the regular season for Troy, which is coming off back-to-back losses to No. 8 Clemson and Memphis. Buffalo, meanwhile, enters the game riding momentum after a 31–28 win over Kent State.

Quarterback Uncertainty for Troy

Troy's offense has struggled since losing starting quarterback Goose Crowder to a shoulder injury last week. Head coach Gerad Parker confirmed that junior Tucker Kilcrease, Houston transfer Ui Ale, and freshman Jack James are all competing for the starting role this week.

"We can't wait five weeks to figure out who we are," Parker said. "We have to play efficient, winning football on offense this week. What that looks like-who that is back there-I wouldn't be able to give you the answer until the end of this week."

The Trojans managed just 112 total yards against Memphis, with only 40 yards through three quarters. Kilcrease completed 10 of 29 passes for 65 yards and one interception, while running back Jordan Lovett added 50 yards on the ground.

Buffalo's Balanced Attack

Buffalo quarterback Ta'Quan Roberson has emerged as a dual-threat weapon, throwing for 318 yards and three touchdowns last week while rushing for 63 yards. Running back Al-Jay Henderson added 75 rushing yards and a touchdown, and receiver Nik McMillan hauled in six catches for 111 yards and a score.

The Bulls are averaging 28.7 points per game and 370 yards of offense, with a defense that allows just 19 points per contest. Linebackers Khalil Murdock and Saveon Brown anchor a unit that has recorded nine sacks and 20 tackles-for-loss through three games.

"They're explosive on offense, they have great skill players at receiver, a running back that is elusive and can go the distance," Parker said. "Their defense is where it starts-they're aggressive, systematic, and play extremely hard."

Troy's defense has held opponents to 331.7 yards per game but has struggled in the red zone and against the run. Buffalo's red zone defense ranks 12th nationally, allowing scores on just 66.7% of trips.

Historical Note

This is only the second meeting between the two programs. Troy won the first in the 2018 Dollar General Bowl in Mobile, 43–32.

What's at Stake

For Troy, a win would stabilize the season heading into Sun Belt play and offer a confidence boost amid quarterback uncertainty. For Buffalo, it's a chance to solidify their standing as one of the top teams in the MAC and continue building toward a potential bowl berth.

With both teams hungry for momentum and Troy facing a hostile road environment, Saturday's game promises grit, urgency, and a test of depth.
