WASHINGTON, D.C. - October 2025 - U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) has introduced two new bills aimed at banning the application and advocacy of Sharia Law within the United States, citing national security concerns and constitutional protections. The legislation follows a forceful floor speech in which Tuberville warned of the dangers posed by radical Islamic extremism.
🔹 Legislative Overview
The two bills-The No Sharia Act and The Preserving a Sharia Free America Act-seek to limit the influence of foreign legal systems that conflict with American constitutional values. Tuberville emphasized that while religious freedom is protected under the Constitution, advocacy for Sharia Law as a replacement for U.S. law is incompatible with American principles.
"Sharia Law is fundamentally anti-American and has no place in our country," Tuberville said. "If you want to peacefully practice your religion, you have every right to do so under the Constitution. But if you want to come to the United States and advocate for the practice of Sharia Law over U.S. law, you should not be here."
The No Sharia Act
This bill would:
• Prohibit U.S. courts from enforcing judgments or contracts based on foreign laws that violate constitutional rights.
• Invalidate contract provisions that rely on foreign laws if they infringe on constitutional protections.
• Bar the application of foreign law in family matters-such as marriage, divorce, custody, adoption, or inheritance-if inconsistent with U.S. law.
The Preserving a Sharia Free America Act
This immigration-focused bill would:
• Deny or revoke visas, immigration benefits, or entry to any foreign national who advocates for Sharia Law in a manner incompatible with the Constitution.
• Prevent courts from overturning agency decisions to remove individuals who promote Sharia Law.
• Revoke immigration benefits for individuals who misrepresent their advocacy of Sharia Law during federal proceedings.
House Companions
The legislation has garnered support in the House of Representatives:
• Rep. Randy Fine (R-FL-06) and Rep. Keith Self (R-TX-03) introduced the No Sharia Act.
• Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX-21) introduced the Preserving a Sharia Free America Act.
Tuberville's proposals are expected to generate significant debate over religious freedom, immigration policy, and constitutional interpretation. Supporters argue the bills are necessary to safeguard American values, while critics may raise concerns about religious discrimination and civil liberties.
