Troy Outlasts Texas State in Overtime Thriller, 48–41

SAN MARCOS, Texas - October 11, 2025 - In a game that showcased grit, firepower, and late-game heroics, the Troy Trojans edged out Texas State 48–41 in overtime on Thursday night, improving to 4–2 on the season and 2–1 in Sun Belt play.

Quarterback Tucker Kilcrease delivered a career performance, throwing for 415 yards and five touchdowns, including the game-winner in overtime - a 25-yard strike to DJ Epps that capped a dramatic comeback and silenced the home crowd at UFCU Stadium.

"We just kept swinging," Kilcrease said postgame. "Coach told us to stay aggressive, and we did. This team doesn't back down."

Troy trailed 34–27 entering the fourth quarter but tied the game with a 12-yard touchdown pass to Epps with under two minutes remaining. After Texas State answered with a field goal, Kilcrease led a rapid drive to set up a game-tying kick by Scott Taylor Renfroe as time expired.

In overtime, Troy's defense held firm, forcing a turnover on downs before Kilcrease and Epps connected for the decisive score.

Epps finished with 148 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Jabre Barber added 112 yards and a score. Running back Kimani Vidal chipped in 85 rushing yards and a touchdown, keeping the Bobcats defense honest.

Head coach Gerad Parker praised the team's resilience: "We talk about finishing every day. Tonight, they lived it. That's a gutsy road win."

Defensively, Troy overcame a 500-yard night from Texas State's offense, including a standout performance by Bobcats quarterback TJ Finley. Linebacker Terry Thomas led the Trojans with 10 tackles and a key third-down stop in overtime.

The win sets up a pivotal home matchup against UL Monroe on October 18, where Troy will look to build momentum in the Sun Belt West race.
