Perry Hill VA Hospital Celebrates its 85th Anniversary

The Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS) will hold an 85th anniversary observance at 1 p.m. Nov. 3 at the Montgomery Campus, 215 Perry Hill Road, in the Multipurpose Room, First Floor E-104.

The event will commemorate the opening of the Montgomery VA facility in 1940 and recognize its role in providing care to Veterans for eight and a half decades.

CAVHCS Director Amir Farooqi will offer remarks during the program.

"It's an honor to recognize this historic milestone and the generations of employees who have supported Veterans through the years," Farooqi said. "I look forward to sharing this moment with staff, Veterans, and community partners who continue to make a difference every day."

The Montgomery Campus was established in 1940. It is one of two major campuses operated by CAVHCS. The system also includes the Tuskegee Campus, which opened in 1923. CAVHAS also operates several community-based outpatient clinics across Alabama and Georgia.

The 85th Anniversary Observance is open to employees, Veterans and community artners.

During the ceremony Director Farooqi is expected to acknowledge longtime Alabama Gazette Veterans reporter Dr. Poole Simmons' service to Veterans with a moment of silence during the upcoming anniversary celebration.

The observance will be followed by a reception with light refreshments in the hospital's museum.
