November 24, 2025 – CLEBURNE COUNTY – Medical freedom activist Kaycee Cavender has announced that she is running for Alabama House of Representatives District 40. HD40 represents the southeastern portion of Calhoun County and all of Cleburne County in eastern Alabama.
Cavender is a businesswoman, sixth-generation Cleburne County resident, and a homeschooling mom of four.
Cavender earned her Associate of Science degree from Southern Union State Community College, continued her studies at Jacksonville State University, and then went on to receive her paralegal certification. Kaycee later worked in the private practices of former district attorneys and municipal judges in Baldwin County, gaining valuable insight into the legislative process, public policy, and community-driven political engagement.
Cavender has led multiple large grassroots efforts focused on protecting families, medical freedom, and demanding accountability from government-giving her a firsthand understanding of what responsive, principled leadership should look like. Cavender is the co-founder of Health Freedom Alabama which campaigned against requiring the COVID-19 vaccine for school attendance. Cavender was appointed by the Governor and confirmed to the Alabama State Board of Midwifery, which was created after the state legalized certified professional midwives in 2017.
She returned home to Cleburne County in 2017, she co-founded CC Athletics in 2022 and supported her husband as he launched Ready Man Property Services in 2024. Cavender said that together, they have invested in strengthening their community, supporting local families, and expanding opportunities for youth and small businesses.
She is married to Robert Cavender. They are members of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where Kaycee teaches a Women's Bible Study class, volunteers for Sunday School with the youth, and Robert serves as a trustee and worship leader.
Cavender says that she is running for the Alabama State House in District 40 to deliver strong conservative leadership, protect families, support rural communities, ensure tax dollars stay local without raising taxes, and uphold the values that make Cleburne and Calhoun Counties exceptional places to live.
HD40 is currently represented by Rep. Chad Robertson (R-Heflin). On September 3, 2025, Robertson publicly launched his re-election campaign.
"It has been my honor to serve the people of this district," said Robertson.
Robertson is emphasizing his role in reducing the state tax on groceries, the elimination of the state tax on baby diapers and formula, and the lowered tax burden on seniors.
Robertson was first elected in 2022, succeeding Rep. K.L. Brown (R-Jacksonville).
The Republican Primary is May 19, 2026.
