Louisiana and Delaware Set for Historic Clash in 2025 Mobile Bowl

MOBILE - The 2025 68 Ventures Bowl, better known locally as the Mobile Bowl, will feature a compelling and historic matchup as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns (6-6) take on the Delaware Blue Hens (6-6) on Wednesday, December 17 at Hancock Whitney Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CST, with national coverage on ESPN.

This year's bowl marks a milestone for both programs - Louisiana returns to Mobile for the first time since winning the 2019 LendingTree Bowl, while Delaware makes its first-ever appearance in an FBS bowl game following its transition from the FCS level.

Delaware's Bowl Debut

The Blue Hens' invitation to the Mobile Bowl is historic. After decades of success in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), Delaware joined Conference USA in 2025 and quickly made waves. Their 6-6 record included wins over Middle Tennessee, FIU, and Jacksonville State, and while they didn't meet the traditional bowl eligibility threshold, the NCAA granted a waiver due to a shortage of eligible teams nationwide.

"This is a landmark moment for our university and our football program," said Delaware head coach Ryan Carty. "To be playing in a bowl game in our first FBS season is a testament to our players' resilience and the support of our community."

Delaware's offense is led by quarterback Zach Marker, who threw for over 2,300 yards and 18 touchdowns this season. Running back Kyron Cumby adds a spark in the backfield, while the defense is anchored by linebacker Liam Trainer and safety Ty Davis.

Louisiana's Return to Mobile

For the Ragin' Cajuns, the Mobile Bowl offers a chance to cap off a rollercoaster season with a statement win. Louisiana finished third in the Sun Belt West Division and enters the bowl on a four-game win streak, including a dramatic 27-24 victory over Southern Miss to secure bowl eligibility.

Head coach Michael Desormeaux praised his team's late-season surge: "We battled through adversity and found our rhythm when it mattered most. Returning to Mobile is special - we've had success here before, and we're excited to represent the Sun Belt."

Louisiana's offense features dual-threat quarterback Zeon Chriss, who passed for 2,600 yards and rushed for another 500. Wide receiver Peter LeBlanc and running back Jacob Kibodi round out a balanced attack, while the defense is led by edge rusher Andre Jones and cornerback Trey Amos.

Bowl Atmosphere and Local Impact

The 68 Ventures Bowl is celebrating its 27th year and its fifth at Hancock Whitney Stadium, located on the campus of the University of South Alabama. Organizers expect a strong turnout from both fan bases, with ticket prices starting at just $15 - making it one of the most affordable bowl experiences in the country.

For Alabama football fans, especially those in St. Clair County and the Gulf Coast region, the Mobile Bowl offers a chance to witness a unique matchup between a seasoned Sun Belt contender and a rising FBS newcomer. The game also highlights Mobile's growing reputation as a bowl destination, with pre-game festivities including a Mardi Gras-style parade, pep rallies, and local food vendors showcasing Gulf Coast flavors.

What to Watch

• Quarterback Duel: Chriss vs. Marker - both are mobile, confident, and capable of big plays.

• Defensive Pressure: Louisiana's pass rush vs. Delaware's offensive line will be a key factor.

• Momentum vs. Milestone: Louisiana rides a win streak; Delaware plays with historic motivation.

Whether you're a die-hard Cajuns fan, a proud Blue Hen, or an Alabama football enthusiast looking for postseason action close to home, the 2025 Mobile Bowl promises excitement, energy, and a touch of history under the lights in Mobile.
