January 6, 2025 -hoover - James "Jimmy" Dees, a Republican police detective from south Alabama, has officially qualified for the race for U.S. House of Representatives in Alabama's 1st Congressional District.
"President Trump and his administration is continuing to set the country up for success. Now it is the responsibility of Congress to begin putting these changes into law. I support the entire Republican Platform," Dees said on his campaign website.

The Restoration of a Moral Compass in Government Dees said, "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people" John Adams." "I can't be everything to everybody; I can only DO me."
Healthcare Reform Dees said that he supports rethinking the current model to make healthcare more accessible and affordable
Growing the Economy Through Home Ownership. Dees said that he supports, "First Time Homebuyer Incentives - low interest rates - transferable mortgage - capping property insurance premiums."
Removing the Federal Income Tax for Public Safety Employees. Dees wrote that he favors a bill where there is, "No Federal Tax on Local First Responders."
Rebuild our Cities Dees favors "Increase Local Law Enforcement and other 1st Responders."
Protecting the Unborn Dees said that in Congress he would be: "A Voice for the Innocent - Every life comes from God and is precious to God."
DOGE Dees said, "I Support DOGE as a permanent non-partisan office - not only finding wasteful spending but preventing it before budgets are set."
Federal Tax Reform Dees said that he supports reforms that would, "Cut rates and Simplify the Code."
Senior's and Retiree's Dees promised to protect Social Security and Medicare
Reform Medicaid – Dees said that, "Citizens should not have to lose their entire estate prior to Medicaid kicking in."
Dees also said that supports removing the controversial DEI ideology from Government
Dees supports the federal government staying out of education.
He also supports making the U.S. energy independent and exporting energy so that our European allies are not reliant on Russia and the Middle east.
On vaccines, Dees said that they should, "Never again (be) required by Government or Business as a condition of freedom or employment."
Dees said that he is running for Congress because, "I believe that living a life of integrity, above reproach, should be the basis of how every member of congress lives their life and the decisions that they make - unencumbered by the influence of special interest groups. I believe that the Bible lays the foundation for good government - the wisdom contained inside its words are as relevant today as it has ever been."
Dee is a native of Haleyville, Alabama. He has a degree from the University of South Alabama and a master's degree from the University of Mobile.
He worked for a large multinational company. that provided engineering and construction services across various sectors such as chemical, petrochemical, and refining industries. Dees worked outside of the US for several years, learning the business and focusing on the financial management of large projects.
In 2022 Dees retired and moved home to Fairhope to be closer to aging parents. After six months of retirement, he reentered the workforce as a corrections officer in the local detention center. After six months he went to work for a local police department as a detective.
"I have Managed those sentenced under the law - Investigated those who have broken the law - Now I want the opportunity to Make the law!" Dees said.
He is the author of the book, "Struggling Well with Life".
"I am not a politician! I am a husband, father, grandfather, friend, and employee of the City of Mobile," said Dees. "Partisanship is Politics, and Politics has Partisanship, but the level we see today is preventing the nation to come together, rather it is driving us further apart. It is crucial that we begin to have meaningful and respectful conversations about the future of this country."
As of press time Dees is the second candidate to qualify in CD1 – the other being former Congressman Jerry Carl (R-Mobile). State Representative Rhett Marquez (R-Enterprise) is also expected to qualify in the coming days.
